About Patrick Hanlon

I am an Irish watercolour artist. My wife Deirdre, and I have spent the past 20 years living between Florida and Dublin. My association with art began many years ago in my schooldays where I attended art classes. After schooldays, art gave way to sport and studies in pursuit of my chosen profession.

Living in Naples in south west Florida with its starry nights and sun- dappled days, its beautiful sunsets over the aquamarine waters of the Gulf of Mexico, its beautiful unspoiled miles of beaches and our neighbour, the untamed Everglades makes it a place that is referred to as “Paradise”.

The experience of being in an atmosphere of unique integration of sophistication and wilderness that exists in few other places on earth re- kindled my interest in art.

I was fortunate to get the opportunity in Naples to attend art classes run by a female professional New England artist. My knowledge, my skill set, my techniques and the quality of my work advanced rapidly under her tutoring.

This experience inspired and excited me not just to paint the Naples area subjects but also to paint the wild, rugged and spectacular scenery of Ireland.

The coastline of Ireland is stunning and dramatic and we have some of the most beautiful beaches you will find anywhere. Ireland offers the artist a wide variety of subjects. Living in my native city, Dublin, I am never far from wonderful subjects. Unlike Naples the artist has no difficulty finding winter scenes to paint.

I like to vary my subjects. South West Florida has had a large influence and inspired me to paint sunrises and sunsets. The Irish coastline, particularly the West of Ireland has been one of my favourite areas for selecting subjects.

My scope of work includes:

  • Florida`s Paradise Coast, Naples and The Everglades.
  • Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford and West of Ireland.
  • Sunrises and Sunsets.
  • Seascapes, Boats and Lightouses
  • Landscapes and Woodlands.
  • Flowers, Botanical and Birds.
  • Abstract, Monotone, and  Spontaneous painting
  • Climate Change
